As you approach Desolation Sound, towering, forest-covered mountains rise dramatically from the edge of the sea. These ancient mountains seem to touch the ski, their slopes blanketed in lush, evergreen forests that stretch down to meet the crystal-clear waters of the sound. The calm waters of Desolation Sound glisten in the sunlight. The sea is a mosaic of blues and greens, from the deep, cobalt hues of the deeper channels to the turquoise shallows near the shore.
Wildlife thrives in this untamed wilderness. Bald eagles soar majestically above, while seals bask on rocky outcrops or peek at you from the sea's surface. Below the water's surface, is a vast marine life with orcas, humpback whales, and playful dolphins occasionally gracing lucky onlookers with their presence.
Desolation Sound is a place of solitude and serenity giving visitors a sense of being disconnected from the modern world. The quietude is only broken by the rustling of leaves in the forest, the soothing lapping of waves on the shore, and the occasional distant call of a seabird.
At night, the absence of light pollution reveals a sky ablaze with stars, and the Milky Way. The sound of gentle waves, lulls you into a deep , restful slumber under the natural planetarium.

Private Oceanfront Vacation Getaway
Covetime Retreat is a private 4-acre vacation getaway idyllically situated at the mouth of Desolation Sound in BC's Discovery Islands. This water access only retreat is surrounded by forested crown land, and it is one of only a few privately owned properties within desirable Refuge Cove on West Redonda Island.
3 Bedroom Main Cabin

Stretch out in our spacious three bedroom oceanfront Cabin, with plenty space and accommodations for up to eight guests. Spend your days lazily watching boats pass the cove, reading a book on one of the multiple decks, swimming in the fresh ocean waters, or soaking in our wood-fired hot tub. Explore the pebbly shore line, bask in the fresh air of the old growth forests, and paddle around the cove.
A glass of wine pairs perfectly with a spectacular sunset while the pizza’s are being prepared in the wood-fired pizza oven. As the sun sets the sky becomes ablaze with stars which view quite nicely from the hot tub.

The property also includes 3 additional cabins newly built in 2021. These self-contained cabins can be added on to the Main Cabin rental to accommodate additional guests*. Each cabin can accommodate 4 guests based on double occupancy.
Within the cooling forest, adjacent to the cabins, are 3 tent pads that are available in addition to the Cabins if your party expands!*
Covetime’s 4 acres includes a vast dock which can moor multiple boats and space to relax on the water. There is also a private bay, with warm ocean swimming just steps from the cabins. Excellent hiking trails through old growth forest surround the property, and a pebbly beach with tide pools is great for exploring.

Activities
While at Covetime Retreat, you have options to enjoy the land and the sea. We have a few hiking trails with trail heads from our property and weaving through majestic, magical forests with each trail ending at a lookout with stunning views.
From the pebbly shores, explore the colourful intertidal marine life of starfish, sea urchins and sea cucumbers. Perhaps drop a fishing line off the dock or go for a refreshing swim!
Perhaps explore via the water top-side! We have individual water crafts to paddle in the cove right off our dock. Perhaps paddle over to Refuge Cove (only a 10 min paddle or 2 minute boat ride) and enjoy this unique place offering a well stocked general store, the Dockside Kitchen restaurant, and the wonderfully curated gallery.
If boating, we are the perfect home base for further exploration to cruise to serene anchorages, warm lakes, and rushing waterfalls.
When in season, cast a line for salmon, cod and rockfish. Or drop traps for crab and prawns.
***Our dock can accommodate several boats. The maximum length of 70 feet LOA on the outside and a draft of 25 feet.
Tour operators from Savary Island, Quadra Island and Campbell River on Vancouver Island, and the coastal ports on BC's mainland offer a wide range of guided tours and equipment rentals - from fishing charters and whale watching tours, to kayak retnals.
